Rafael Nadal is longer: depressed and sad
The Grand-Slam record winner and winner of Australian Open has accessed a stress fracture of a rib in Indian Wells. "These are not good news, I did not expect that," Twittered Nadal. He was "depressed and sad" because he was well started well in the season.
The 35-year-old Spaniard had reported after his final defeat against the American Taylor Fritz at the Masters-1000 tournament last Sunday in California of problems with breathing. After returning to Spain, he had a closer examination.
The re-injury and forced break is a setback for the preparation for the French Open for the Sandplatzspezialist. The preparation tournament in Barcelona, which he won twelve times, starts on 18 April and is likely to take place without him. The French Open in Paris will be available from 22 May. In Paris, the left-hander has triumphed 13 times.
At the season opener this year, Nadal had named his comeback after a heavy foot injury with the Australian Open and a total of 21st degree slam titles to the record winner. He also won the ATP tournaments in Melbourne and Acapulco. Only in the final of Indian Wells he put his first defeat of the season. In the world ranking he repressed Alexander Zverev from third place.
